According to the statement made by Çatalköy-Esentepe Municipality, at a meeting attended by Mayor Ceyhun Kırok, Forestry Department Director Ercan Poyraz, and excavators from the region, areas for disposing of soil from excavations were determined, and a mutual memorandum of understanding was signed on how these areas will be reclaimed for nature.

KIROK

Mayor Ceyhun Kırok stated that after his announcement drawing attention to the natural disaster that occurred in the region on July 27, the Director of the Forestry Department, Ercan Poyraz, showed great sensitivity by calling him and participating in this important meeting. Kırok noted that at the meeting, all excavators working in the region acted sensitively by signing their commitments and took a big step towards preventing environmental damage.

Kırok said, “It has been decided that the newly established Cyprus Excavators Association will inform all excavators, and it has been stated that they will cooperate with the municipality to prevent the illegal dumping of construction waste into nature by excavators who are not members of the association. As Çatalköy-Esentepe Municipality, all excavators who will dig in the region will be required to be members of the Cyprus Excavators Association. It has been emphasized that otherwise, excavation works will not be permitted. The reforestation of areas where soil will be dumped will be carried out together with the Forestry Department and excavators. A camera system will be installed on the main roads for the control of the region, and necessary monitoring will be carried out.”

Mayor Kırok thanked all the excavators who acted sensitively for the protection of the region’s nature and the Director of the Forestry Department, Ercan Poyraz, on behalf of the local people.
