To Be Hamlet

The Çatalköy Esentepe Municipality Beşparmaklar Theatre Festival continues with great enthusiasm. As part of the festival, organized in collaboration with the Çatalköy Esentepe Municipality and the Cyprus Turkish State Theatres, the play “Becoming Hamlet,” staged by the Gazimağusa Special Education and Vocational Training School, met with theatre lovers last night. Adapted from the classic work, the play depicts Prince Hamlet’s search for truth amidst a web of betrayal, justice, love, and conscience. The actors’ performance, reflecting perseverance, solidarity, and the power of children’s dreams, received great appreciation from the audience. The packed hall experienced emotional moments and gave the actors a long standing ovation. At the end of the performance, Çatalköy Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok and Gazimağusa Special Education and Vocational Training School Director Emirali Evcimen took to the stage and thanked the actors for their perseverance and success. Mayor Kırok, in his speech, mentioned that his paths crossed with the school principal, Emirali Evcimen, in 2007 at special education schools, that they had the opportunity to work together at that time, and that they carried out an EU project for the Nicosia Special Education and Vocational Training Center. He emphasized that as an educator, he has always attached great importance to education, and highlighted the importance of opening more centers where children with special needs can receive education. Kırok stated, “Tonight, we have once again seen what our special children can achieve when they work with determination.” School Principal Emirali Evcimen, in his speech, thanked his students, instructors, and everyone involved in preparing the performance, and also expressed his gratitude to the Çatalköy Esentepe Municipality for providing this meaningful stage opportunity. At the end of the evening, Mayor Kırok presented flowers and plaques to the actors who performed. This special play, staged as part of the festival, once again showcased the unifying power of art and the transformative effect of education.
